Summer 2012 "Go Local" cover

The fuzzy red moose calves should be hitting the ground any day now in western Montana. Meanwhile, the most recent "Go Local" magazine has just hit the storefronts around the Flathead Valley. This time around, they went for a retro cover photo.

I photographed the moose mom and calf back in the late '80s with Fuji Velvia slide film. Remember slide film? It could be finicky stuff (especially for astrophotography) but if you carefully underexposed half a stop (no third-stops back then), you could get the rich saturation that everyone now simply adds in post. I miss slide film, but not the old wet labs. Fume-free, digital editing will save the lungs of countless young photographers.
